Interior design around engine lid

My rock and roll bed sits about 100mm higher than the engine lid and I have to build this area up to match. I'd be interested in seeing any pics to give me inspiration for designs.

Luckily the height I needed to build was exactly 4" plus 12mm for the ply and wood can easily be bought in 4" sizes for the frame

Sorry bit late getting some pics of mine up, but here you go...











Made from 12mm (I think, or is it 15?) ply, with oak edging - just a series of boxes screwed together with lids.

I do like the idea of the drawer as it makes the storage space more usable, but makes getting to the engine a bit more time consuming - I often have to get to the engine!

these are all great, thanks. I think ill go down the mdf route as it will be 'back of house', i can paint it to match the pincord carpet im fitting and then it will match the teak units and wardrobe im also fitting (on sunday...)

no I leave the driver there so bugger has some ventilation in the baking heat,haha

Mine is a steel framed DIY bed/seat and on first go, I found if the seat was any higher than rear decklid, passengers feet were dangling when seated and it wasn't that comfortable so cut it down so everything was square:

MDF? Why not use plywood?

Remember if you measure up beforehand you get 15 free cuts at b&q and maybe more at other woodmerchants

Im going to *try* and build something simular tomorrow, but I'm fully expecting it to look no-where near as good and Im going to swear a LOT....

Due to some miscalculatitions in my bed fitting, my unit is actually going to have to be rather deep at 19cm. Should be interesting.
