Can anyone recommend good campsites in the Picos de Europa?

Where you go, where you stay and everything to do with getting there and back.

Can anyone recommend good campsites in the Picos de Europa?

Post by Fergal1985 »

Hi
We are taking our 1985 T25 to Spain in August - arriving in Santander and planning to spend a couple of days near the coast and then a couple of weeks in the Picos. Can anyone recommend any good campsites - we also have two children (5 and 3) so a pool is always good!
Thanks Ruth :ok

Cant get much better than Potes. You're right on the edge of the Picos there, so about 60 miles south west of Santander. Haved stayed at this place
http://www.campingencantabria.com/el-camping" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; three times and in the citadel town of Potes itself, just a ten minute walk away, in a hotel called La Familia. Nice and clean and serves delicious tapas at the bar. However this was in 2007 and its a rapidly changinge world we live in so google it first just in case the place is now a cash converter store. :D

Otherwise when you leave Santander go west along the coast as best as possible to Vincente de la Barquera for another great campsite. Cant remember its name though. But staying a close to the coast wherever possible brings up loads of pretty campsites so that my recommendation to you.

Remember to visit the caves at Altamira? Brilliant for kids and adults alike. Wikipedia reads http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altamira_(cave" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

Hasta luego!
Stuart

Thanks so much for your suggestions. We will definitely try them. We want to spend about 9 days in the Picos and the remaining 5 on the coast.

Cheers

Great campsite on a superb cove and massive beach.

Superb little fishing town....buit the campsitre is very hard to get into if you havent booked !

Good luck :)

Ruth,

The beach at San Vicente is superb for kids as its so big, sandy and leaves great pools to jump in when the tide goes out....

Hi,
We did a similar trip a few years ago. Cannot remember the names of any of the campsites but lovely place. But be careful of drinking the tap water up in the hills and small campsites. My daughter 10 got quite ill, so did the camper next to us. I would suggest using sterotabs or similar.
