What are the safest standard tyre?

Post by skippymoss »

Hullo.
Alright?
I'm looking for the safest set of tyres I can fit on my standard 14" steelys.
At the moment I've got a right mixture including Hankook RA08, Michelin XC and some chinese budget rubbish too - want to work towards a matching set of good boots.
Read the Wiki and followed the links but would like a second/ tenth opinion please.
Not bothered about longevity - won't do more than 5000 miles/ year I reckon.
Totally bothered about stopping and driving in the direction I intend to go!
Would be nice to get decent traction on grass too.
Conti? Michelin? Hankook? Other?
2.1DJ engine with auto box by the way.
Ta
:ok

Will do Rob.
Got a bit scared when I realised that the doughnut who had the van before me was running car tyres (!) on merc alloys.
No wonder the 'Iron Maiden' went a bit wobbly round corners - mahoosive understeer!
Fortunately the original steelys were part of the sale which have a few workable C/D rated van tyres on.
So I'm swapping back to original wheels - can't afford to buy a whole new set of rubber for the alloys at the minute.
The pentas'll be up for sale soon to help pay for the stainless exhaust I reckon.

tyres have a five year lifespan... after that the sidewalls begin to crack.
A Branded tyre from a Tyre manufacturer like Pirelli, Goodyear, Continental, Hangkook, Michelin, Avon, Yokohama will be your best buy choice for grip and traction.
