Post by meggles »

Friends T4 locking cap for water tank: She's lost the key (and the plot but thats another story!). Any ideas on how to get around the problem? Drill? Bash screwdriver in? Clever locksmith? Any sensible ideas welcome! No probs about buying another locking cap, just need to get this one off!

If it's one of those which freewheels when it's locked, you could try drilling a 4mm hole 19mm from the centre of the cap, then pop a nail in the hole. This should lock the two sections together, then you should be able to open it. Don't go too far out from the centre or you'll damage the end of the pipe.

Thanks Colin, unfortunately it is one that locks firmly. Thinking of big grips but I reckon that would damage the pipe.

Are you sure? It might just be unlocked and veeeeeeeeery stiff to turn. I've made a special tool with three short bits of dowel glued into a wooden handle cos I can't get my water cap off any time without it.
