anyone had an autobox refurbished ? i'm running 2.1i,

I was travelling down to Cornwall from Surrey in 2009 when my torque converter and autobox decided to part company at Plymouth (2.1l). Bolts sheared - apparently a known problem with this engine/box?
Anyway, upshot was a recon box because, when removed, found that the casing was cracked to b*ggery - beyond any welding. All in box, fitting and faffing set me back about £800. Ouch.
Used a garage in Maidenhead called Boxers - not a specialist and probably cheaper deals out there, but box has had no complaints since then.

van is going in for fixing at auto box specialist .......£1000 +vat OUCH!!!! but the good side to that is she'll be back on the road with a rebuilt box

I "think" Lobey means flex (torque) plate bolts. Not sure how common it is but it happened on mine early on in its life. The PO had some work done on the engine and they hadn't tightened up the flex plate bolts properly.
End result is flex plate came loose, smashed some of the casing on the front of the auto box and snapped the crank!!
Just make sure if you do seperate the box these bolts are torwued up properly.

Not a common problem then.Just some fool not doing the job properly..

Sorry guys, been away - just catching up. MM's right - problem was with the torque plate bolts shearing. I did some research at the time which indicated that this was a known issue - racking brains for where I read this...I'll re-check and come back...
