Help!!!!

Post by VEEDUB »

Picked my 2.0 Aircooled viking up yesterday (ebay buy) after a look over the van making sure there was nothing really bad, body being pretty sound , a little welding needed underneath and the engine sounding ok I parted with just under 2500 and headed home leicester to London. I got a mile away and went to fill up and she would not start, totally dead with just a single red light on the dash oil can ? water can ? icon no battery light , I phoned the guy and he said it was a loose wire in the colum, so not having any tools I gave it a bang and it started, the guy came out to me and said it has only happened a few times. So I chanced it and headed off, just coming into London it Died! this time I had a battery light and it was clicking when turning the key (just a click under the dash) managed to get a guy to give me a push and she started and I got home....... So I am now feeling a bit down about it as it will not start I think I may have bought a lemon  , electrics not being one of my strengths :? Im now wondering where to start , I have charged a spare battery in the hope that the one that is on it has just died  ..... So when it did start on a bump the battery light went out so can I say its not the Alternator :?: Starter motor is supposed to be pretty new so shouldn't be that.

So any advice will be really appreciated , Thanks in advance ,Bill

Get a new ignition switch anyway - they are CRAP and they are CHEAP! If that doesn't solve it, I'd be surprised :-)

For the meantime, take ALL the other keys off the ring, and just use the one you need.

My 1.9 EFI used to cut out on steep hill starts and high speed left handers. UNTIL I replaced the ignition switch :-)

Hi,

A good start would be to check all the main earth connections. These are located attached to the body under the dash behind the glovebox, it will be obvious if any are corroded. I had to clean up and replace about half of mine which cured my intermittant electrical problems.

Good luck.. Phil
