Does the thick black ignition live cable that comes into the engine bay with the loom stay live whilst cranking?
Switched 'Ignition on ' stay live when cranking?

Yes if you mean the one to the coil, or it would'nt start.

What he said but with the understanding that you will see a fair voltage drop when cranking due to the high amp demand of the starter (as low as 10 volts). The only reason i point this out is for voltage sensitive equipment.
