Re: electrolux rm 184 pilot problems
Mine is auto ignition and starts 'clicking' a few seconds after the buttons are set to 'GAS' position.
When I first got mine the changeover buttons seemed to 'stick' and sellecting the right power source (12v/mains/gas) was never very positive and often the ignighter didn't work.
I stripped out my buttons and freed them off with some 3in1 oil and imediately the buttons functioned correctly. The mechanism was just dry so didn't function correctly.
The button needs holding in until the thermo coupling is heated to keep the gas flowing (thermo couplings do malfunction)
I also had the tinyest bit of rust (a spec) in the jet so the flame was very small and needed unblocking.

Re: electrolux rm 184 pilot problems
taken out switches today and cleaned and they work fine now but still unable to get igniter to work.
does anyone know if it would try to ignite/click even when gas is disconnected
does your leisure battery need to be fully charged to give enough power for igniter to ignite
does your gas need to be at a pressure above 32 mbar
any help Please

Re: electrolux rm 184 pilot problems
Leisure battery must have charge to activate electronic ignition. When my battery was dead mine wouldn't work. I had a problem with dust in the nozzle and a friend cleaned mine out with an air compressor and now works great. Good luck

Re: electrolux rm 184 pilot problems
With the battery it only matters if you have electronic ignition not if it is the older push button loud click type (technical term)

Re: electrolux rm 184 pilot problems
Sorry...not sure of model numbers, does yours have a push button and have you tried to push it all the way in (there is quite a resistance before it clicks) if it is this type.
Doesn't need gas pressure infact the auto ignighter type starts clicking when it senses flame out or if you turn the gas valve off.
Westies work on a 50mb regulator, higher than we generally use (37mb?)
Yes you need power to the fridge in order for the 'electric' auto ignighter to work but not the manual push button type.

Re: electrolux rm 184 pilot problems
ok guys i have put leisure battery on charge for 24 hr to make sure there is plenty of power and i think it might be auto ignition as it is a 1990 westfalia california ie late model.
the gas was working at a pressure of 32mb so think gas is not a problem
will get back to you tomorrow night
thanks Martin
thanks justicewhittle
i am getting there hopefully

Re: electrolux rm 184 pilot problems
Mines an 89 California so likely the same as mine....I would just add a friend of mine, also with a Cali, had to renew his igniter. Think he got his from Gunzl, not cheap.

Re: electrolux rm 184 pilot problems
Ok 20hr vans been on charge plenty of power light above gas switch is a bit brighter but still no igntion.
I can here the gas getting through when i press igniter switch in.
I still need to get a tester so i can see if power is getting to ignition wire
If not i think a new ignition switch sometime when i can afford it
Cheers Guys

Re: electrolux rm 184 pilot problems
That might be the sensor wire to tell the igniter to stop trying to ignite from the thermocouple
AGG 2.0L 8V. (Golf GTi MkIII)
Re: electrolux rm 184 pilot problems
kev just been back out for another fiddle and found the black wire connecter a little loose so made secure and hay presto FIXED
the igniter stopped as soon as gas was lit even with black wire off so can't understand it
Just glad i can use fridge on gas again
Thanks to everyone for your input/help
