Diesel engines what do they look like?!

Hi currently having an argument about configeration of diesel lump. I have said it is like a normal inline 4 thing, but my husband says it is a flat 4 like the petrol engines.
Please can someone let us know who is right!!

I can put both ur minds at rest and let you know that..........The wifey is right! it is a normal straight 4 lump..well my 1.6 diesel is anyways...heres pic for ya..they just tilt it just under 90 degrees to left. Hope this ends the debate!!
