Auto gearbox service in the Surrey area

Post by Lobey »

Hi there, first to say hello to this forum. This is my second post - the first being about 5-mins ago on the 'general' forum...

Anyway, does anyone have any good recommendations for an auto gearbox servicer in the Surrey area (or thereabouts)? I have a 2.1i watercooled Autosleeper Trident (1990); nothing desparately wrong with the 'box (I think) but it might need some TLC before we thrash it over summer...

Thanks!

Dont go paying a garage to do it.Buy new gasket and strainer.(Click links below) And fluid (Dextron or Dextron 2).Take plate off diff pan. After undoing bottom of filler pipe to drain off old fluid.Replace old strainer with new.fit new gasket.replace diff pan.fill with new fluid.2.5 litres.Job done. Its dead simple.

Yeah, why not...I changed the head gasket on a geriatric Polo once (and it worked afterwards - big miracle) so this can't be too challenging, right...? :)

Would be good to get a 6-speed box fitted - fuel economy from the 3-speed it truly shocking... :(

Thanks both for your help...

Fuel economy is never going to be that good.Mine is my everyday driver. So i had it converted to lpg.I have not come across a 6 speed box,for one of these vans.So cannot comment on that.

Rob, ready to rock and roll on this, but notice you say remove the diff pan - do you mean the autobox pan? The filler pipe feeds into the 'box so assume this is where the oil sits? Or should I do both?

Thanks for your help...

The filler pipe goes into the autobox pan so you´re right. It´s a very simple job just make sure you fit everything back up with the correct torque.
