Zig Unit

Post by VW Leon »

Hi,
I have installed a Zig CF8 for 240 and 12v power, all as per manutfacturers instructions.
What i note is that when i have the manis pluged in the leisure battery is charging but not the car battery.
Does the car battery only get charged when the car is going or do i need to install a split charger to charge it off the mains hook up.
Thanks

Sorry, gave you a bum steer there. It only charges the leisure battery, the cabling to the starter battery and the 'car' or 'touring' switch position is to allow you to run the camper electrics off the starter battery rather than the leisure battery but does not facilitate charging of the starter battery.

No probs, but is there a way i can get it to charge the starter battery as well. I supose i can swasp the batteries for a while, but am sure with 240v hooked up there is a better way?

I don't know why you're that enthusiastic to charge the starter battery anyway as the alternator charges it when you drive anywhere. Unless you're planning on laying the van up for the winter months - but I believe the manual states not to leave the Zig charger on continuously.

If you only require light topping up I use a solar panel (c£15) that pumps 16+v in sunshine. Simply plugs into your cig lighter.
