Benefits of Silicon Hose?

Just had to do a roadside repair on a perished rubber coolent hose, so it needs replacing.
Whats the benefit of fitting a silicon hose??

Normally, they're used by the tuning boys primarily because they're available in lots of shiny colours and as nice simple mix-and-match elbows & reducers to enable easy manufacture of hoses that wouldn't be otherwise available, enabling different engines/cooling systems/turbos/intercoolers to be plumbed in.

If you're just doing a straight replacement of standard hoses available off-the-shelf, and don't much care about the bling, then there's not a lot of benefit. The standard rubber ones have lasted 20-odd years...
