My T25 has started ... not starting! When I turn the key I get the dash lights but nothing else, happens a few times then it turns over and starts, but it's getting worse! Any ideas??
I'll check leads etc tonight as were heading off to a festival this weekend..I did wonder if it could be starter motor so tried moving van side to side ...
Shall we assume that this is a WBXer engine ? Check the smallest wire to the starter, the one with a 6mm spade connector on it, the terminal decays, the cable decays and gives your symptoms. Clean terminals, cut wire back to good, bright copper (ensuring it's still long enough of course) and replace with yellow 6mm terminal (PROPERLY crimped on) and if possible use heat-shrink to seal new terminal and cable.
Could also be the gearbox earth strap, battery earth strap and/or the ignition switch. Could also be a knackered starter solenoid but my money's firmly on #1

Thanks Ian - Engine in my 1985 T25 Transporter is 1.9 DG, I guess that is a WBXer engine?.....I'll follow your advice with the starter wire when I get home - I'm not sure what heat shrink is, but I guess it's a tool i don't have as my kit is limited...
WBXer is a watercooled petrol so yep, your DG is a wbxer
Heatshrink does what it says on the tin ... it's a rubber/plastic sleeve which slides over the cable and a joint or terminal and then you heat it with a small blowtorch and the sleeve shrinks and seals the area to prevent water/sh!t getting in.

Ian - I see you're in Derbyshire - We're Derbyshire bound (hopefully) tomorrow, heading for Kedleston Hall Park for The Bearded Theory Festival. Kedleston, north of Derby on the map, do you know it??

Certainly do, it's about 5 miles from where we live. Matt and Rob will be there as well so they'll watch Jew~lee Flibbertyjibblet give you a push start

This worked a treat for me the other week

I like the look of your camper in the photo! is it a Viking Conversion? ..... Mine's red & a bit similar, but it hasn't got the great Viking pop-up with loads of room....
And I agree withn the previous posts re non starting, its probably the connector to the solenoid or a bad earth. Don't just check the gearbox earth either, make sure the starter is effectivley earthed to the gearbox, i.e bolted up tight and making good contact.
Mine wouldn't start for ages ( 2 months) after fitting a brand new starter. Everyone had a go at it and in the end it proved to be the paint on it preventing a good earth as I was bolting it to a new ( also painted ) gearbox. DOH !

The bit that worked was cleaning the earth straps on the gearbox. The red Viking was a great camper but I sold it 2 years ago to move to IOW. I have just bought a high top see my garage, needs a bit if work though but I love it.

Successful return trip to Bearded Theory Fest (very good!)...loads of nice campers about!!
I thought I'd cleaned the contacts on the starter motor - I think I had actually cleaned the ignition coil, now I think I've located the starter (tricky location at the back of the engine bay), I've cleaned one of the contacts but not located the earth connection to gearbox!!
Shows my level of expertise - I tried to attach a few choice photos to demonstrate but its not working.....

lay under van in front of the rear wheels, look at gear box, now at the small end (ie not the engine end) you will see where its bolted to the van on there will be a braided earth strap thats what needs checking and cleaning! Once shiny smear vasaline over the connections to stop um corroding !
