Difficulty starting JX

Post by herukano »

Hi guys,
Just recently my van has developed an annoying habit of not starting from cold , if i leave it turning over for 45 seconds or so it will eventually start with a puff of white smoke ! The glow plug light comes on the dash for 10 seconds or so then goes out. Once the engine is warm she starts like a dream first time and the glow light will either illuminate for a short time <2 secs or not at all (if stinking hot) . Can i safely assume this to be a glow plug/relay failure ?

Thing is it just started happening when i was fitting a new steering cowel that didnt quite go and being in a rush i pushed it on , can i have disturbed a wire behind the dash that might cause a similar fault or should i jump on the GP first ?

Thanks for any help its appreciated

You could start by checking the glow plugs. Plenty of threads on here about that.
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.
