I'm currently changing my van from one with no diff locks and no decoupler to one with both diff locks and decoupler.
I seem to have worked everything out with the exception of the following item.
Is this pressure/vacumn switch standard? where do you plumb it into the vacumn line? Where does it connect to electrically? I don't seem to have any spare wires on the diff lock loom. Is it a standard piece of kit?
oh and finally, what does it do? Just an alarm? does it stop the diff lock lights come on?
this is the numpty alert, fitted into the wiring and vacuum at the dash end, basically the front diff lock switch is plumbed so that the on side goes through this and together with the little circuit board wrapped in foam it makes the front light flash once you've pulled the switch to say " hey you pulled the front switch you know mate" before the difflock engages when the light goes solid - it's not shown in Bentley cos the yanks didn't get front lockers
ok so it monitors the vacumn line used to pull the front diff lock in.
I've got that little board covered in foam and it's plugged into my loom.
I checked another syncro to get the wiring details, with no front diff lock, it didn't have the circuit board or this switch so that makes sense, but I didn't have any wires left over. What colour wires plug into this switch?
Is there a wiring diagram for this setup anywhere, I can't find one.
there's no wiring diagram that I know of, it's a make sense of it thing, but there should have been two single spade connections in the loom next to the multiplug for the foam covered board, I'm working from memory here and I'm not about to take my van to pieces to check but there's an earth terminal circular hole type that goes onto a 6mm stud on the body and there should be two single spades to connect through that vaccum monitoring switch before the multiplug - ring the Nutz later they will probably have a dash in bits and will be able to advise
I've run out of selector ball boots and they went obsolete from VW and they didn't tell me just delete my order, will have some tommorow
Just got home and checked my loom. There were two terminals not used in my friends loom. One goes to that circuit board and the other goes to the diff panel and off behind the glove box. It all makes sense now. Thank you.
Itching for those other bits, having to take the 2wd camping this coming weekend, missing out on loads of 4wd tracks, might have to accept a ride in my friends Land cruiser, the shame of it!
