Viking poptop - Good/Bad?

Post by Allanw »

Hey all,

Is there any reason why I should avoid one of those GIANT Viking pop tops??? They are HUGE, 3 or 4 berth. There are two available here in NZ (T3's are rare, pop tops without a van attached are like rocking horse "pooh"!).

Any problems with them - causing body problems, major failure nuclear meltdowns etc?

I like the idea of the size, and they aren't too expensive, although they need canvas. Also, they cover they sliding door when up, so could help keep some weather out.

All comments welcome!

Cheers,
Allan :-)

I had a bay with one, wasn't great in high winds flapped around a lot, hinge failed on it too. But great for space, only van that you could get 6 people sleeping in! (I have)

I expect there will be some flapping - the "tent" is terribly taught when up - I'd probably fit a couple of internal support to help stop the fibreglass roof flexing in the wind anyway.

Cheers!

Fantastic innovation that (I think) won an award of some sort. As mentioned the space they make available is phenomenal compared to bog standard arrangements. Only down side I've heard of is weight......

I'm glad to not be hearing any nagatives so far!

The weight isn't a big problem for me - we have no cabinets (8 seater) and a subaru 2.5, so no speed issues :-) Thanks for the info :-)

Go for it, they are no more problematic than most pop tops and great for space. :ok

They are incredibly heavy and have zero storage when down, HUGE sleeping capacity but no-where to put their stuff.

I used to leave the bedding/sleeping bags up there (laid out obviously) and just lower the roof on top - fitted ok. Couldn't put nowt else up there but than what pop top can?
