1600 turbo diesel head gasket

Hi!
I have a pool of oil/antifreeze collecting in a recess on the block below the head on my '90 T25. I guess I am going to have to change the head gasket, and never having done a diesel before I am getting a bit panicky over setting up the timing afterwards. Is it T.D.C. on the flywheel then aligning all the dots on the pulleys at the front?. Any tips would be welcome, like do I renew the head bolts or not! (I have done this job on a Volvo 240 a couple of years ago so I have some knowledge!.

It's easy as eating pie, the clutch plate has a timing mark, the fuel pump has a hole so you can put a drill bit in to lock it, the cam shaft has a groove cut into the back so you can lock that off to.

I would renew the head bolts when doing the gasket to.

There are no immediate dangers when doing the head gasket it's pretty much straight forward you can do it in a morning once you have done a few.

Get all your parts from brickwerks :)

Are you def sure it's the head though and not just a leak pooling like from the oil cooler as that is a common failure

Thanks for the info'. The engine is inclined, and the recess is just by the distributor hole (if it had one!) I am pretty sure it is the gasket as the leak seems to be in line (below) the oil feed coming up from the block into the head. I have only done a casual look at prices from 'Just Campers' they all seem terribly expensive. Another thing! do I have to remove the turbo which is the other side underneath, or can I lift the head off with it on?.
So we are looking at top end gasket set; a set of head bolts; and a cam serpentine/belt ?.

Headgasket
Cam belt
Head bolts
Rocker gasket (might aswel do it)
Tensioner
Possible bottom pulley

I'd leave the turbo on if you snap an exhaust stud it's better and easier than replacing a exhaust head stud. If you remove the air box there is enough room to get it passed and out.

Check for cracks between valve seats that's very common.

Just mark everything up and you will br fine

As said above. Its really easy to do, just take your time. I replaced the head bolts on mine. I think they have to be replaced everytime as they are straetch bolts. :D

Thank you Gentlemen for your help I will post the outcome as soon as the job is done and/or any problems I encountered. Unfortunately I have just found out I have Prostate cancer, so it has rather taken the fun/edge! of doing it. I'm just sitting in the garden feeling pee'ed off! at this moment in time!.

dont forget to get the head/ block face checked for flatness

Sorry to hear of your problems Mate!!
I had the same weepy gasket 2 weeks ago, K Seal cured mine a treat. Bullseye stock it or see here:- http://www.k-seal.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I know it's not the best way of dealing with the leak, but it's a half hour solution that gets you rolling again.
