Fuel pump appears to have died on my 1986 1.9 DG, so going to replace it and thought I might as well replace the pushrod at the same time. VW Heritage are out of stock of the pump. JK have them in stock http://www.justkampers.com/shop/fuel-pump-j10391.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but they say it might require a modification to fit it. Either the pipes will need bending or the breather tower might need to be "reprofiled". Anyone does this? Difficult?
measure your pushrod, it needs to be 100mm long, if its less, reduce the thickness of the bakealite formed spacer at the base of the pump to compensate BUT it must be dead flat and paralell, no humps or bumps- glass paper on a steel or glass surface type of procedure
GSF need to have a re-think on this cheap substitute policy they've adopted recently and sharpish, seems like no-one has a good word for them these days .... if they're not careful they'll turn into another JK.

The fuel pump arrived from JK today and the inlet pipe is a much bigger diameter than the outlet or the previous pump. I've got some larger diameter fuel hose that'll fit it, but then I've either got to connect that to the old hose or the rigid plastic pipe that enters the engine bay. Why can't life ever be simple?
