Engine completely silent

Post by drippytap »

1989 Westfalia Diesel

Used the van a few times in April, after winter cover up. Short journeys down to garage for MOT and to shops etc.
Has started after 2nd or 3d turn of key, even after long winter break.
Yesterday, started to drive a mile or so the builders merchant, and back. Two hours later started for even shorter journey to unload a few bricks,
Last night absolutely nothing. Orange diesel light on with two red lights, when diesel light went off turned key - nowt - couldn't even heard a click. Main beam fine

My first plan today, take battery out and charge - hopefully the answer , the short journeys didnt give it enough time to recharge, its a fairly new battery 18 -24 months maybe.
but if not that - help
what would be a list of things to check, no obvious wires lose by the way.
Would have taken battery out last night but already late for a BBQ and of now for my son's u18's football final, followed by another BBQ - couldnt of happen friday could it!!!

i wouldnt worry about taking the battery off for a charge.... its not that.
either ignition switch or signal wire and or connector onto starter, or starter solenoid.

This happened to me, it was just the connector on the starter solenoid which had vibrated off.
