instrument lights

I have got a problem with my instrument lights!!

when i put a fuse into the fuse holder that sits on top of the fuse box and switch my lights on the dimmer switch starts smoking!!

i have got a new dimmer switch but not sure what the problem is.

the 3 instrument lights are not working and the backlight behind the switches.

the fuse holder has 2 wires going to it a blue and white one and a black and white one.

what should i be testing / looking for??
