high revs 2.1i DJ

Post by lewskisdub »

I was driving down the road one day and all of a sudden my van started revving like my foot was flat to the floor!! Dont know the in's and out's of the problem but I took it to 'vw specialists' who in the end took out the idle speed control valve and 'plugged' the 2 pipes that went in either end with bolts. This seemed to fix the problem as the vans revs came down but i think it still idles too high and it seems to really struggle on slight inclines of long motorway roads. The engine is pretty new, I got a new custom stainless steel exhuast so I ruled them out as being a problem. Could it be the air flow meter and would it be worth replacing the injection system with a pierburg carb as I priced up a new idle speed control valve and air flow meter and they are not cheap!!!

you most certainly can replace with a carb set up.
At bustypes there was the whole shooting match for £35 used of course :D

I have an air flow meter I think.. When I get back home I'll check.
I junked the injection set up for a carb on my 2.1
It works great

My 2.1i injection system is starting to misbehave I am really interested in the idea that I can junk the injection system.
How difficult is it ?
Thanks

On a scale of 1 to 10 with ten being very technical

You would have to junk the ecu and get a dg ecu and small loom
mechanical fuel pump
Inlet manifold
Pieeburg carb
hosing ( coolant )
small loom for carb de icer, manifold heater and auto choke.
air intake ass.
all readily available

thanks kev
i was getting really worried that i would have an injected engine with a fault which would fail at a key moment (getting on a ferry, on a railway crossing, on a "fast" junction
OR
an injected engine that suffered the above AND one i had thrown money at getting new/second hand bits for and never really finding out what the problem was.
OR
I would have to go to the hassle and expense of junking an otherwise ok engine.

u have given me a sensible option which should mean i dont have to sell the wife to sort it ....Thanks........

I am am a mechanical virgin so if i have any problems i know who i can ask ....thanks again Kev
