Which speakers???

Post by Cruz »

After fitting a new bed I'm after putting some new speakers in. Front door mounted one's are poor too so they are going. Not after spending a lot, maybe £50-£70 max. Just want something that will sound good but not looking to blow campsites away .

Now I'm always baffled by speakers so what would you recommend for running off a standard 4x50w sony headunit? 2 way, 3 way, 4 way?? :|

Would 6x9's be better in the bed kickboard?

Imo
6x9" give the best bass/mid quality. Personally under the bed I would fit 3way (tweeter, mid, bass) 6x9". And buy a good quality name brand Sony,Kenwood, pioneer etc stay clear of the cheaper ones. Also look at the rms wattage, that's peak -3db if memory serves correct. Peak to peak power is commonly used to boast.
Eg 100w peak to peak = 50w peak = 35ishw rms

I've been looking at some JBL 6x9's on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

ANOTHER QUESTION: The speakers in my front doors dripped on. On the quarter light seal theres a hole in the seal where the bottom edge of the glass sits. This is right over the position the previous owner mounted the speakers at the bottom of the door.

Any ideas on making a cover for the back of the speaker so the rain runs off?

Those jbls look fine.

For the front door you could always look at fitting marine speakers as fitted to boats and for outdoor use, not sure on prices tho. :?

If you fit JBLs in the rear, get JBLs to fit in the front, to keep the sound stage the same

just fit a plastic sheet above the speaker to keep water off

I have the above (ebay link) speakers in the rear of my van and these

^^^^^^^^^^ Yeh, looks good. They'll protect your speakers and should get a better sound unless you've already dynamated your doors :ok

I've got some of that roof flashing stuff that I was going to line the doors out with but I,ve never got round to it yet

Will be nice to get some rear speakers back now the r&r bed is back in, as the fronts are really crap

E D I T: Would it be worth fitting baffles to the rear speakers in the seat kickboard?
