Today I made a 3/4 width bluebird bed rear base

Post by Cruz »

Here's what I cobbled together in a few minutes

Height was perfect for 100mm wood with 12mm ply on top

It's bolted firm to the van except for the removeable box for access to the engine which is a snug fit and kept in place by the tailgate when closed.

If I can do it anyone can.

Thanks to B&Q for cutting the wood for me with their 15 free cuts (angled cut at the carpet lined side was done at work on the bandsaw) :D

Do you not have a Savoy Timbre near you? They do infinite amount of cuts for free and usually loads cheaper :ok

I looked at Savoy online and would have saved about £5. But factor in fuel, 20 minutes each way into Preston city centre if I am lucky, coupled with the traffic stress of having to venture into such a dump and it levels out as B&Q is only 1/4 mile away. The 12mm ply sheet was only £1 cheaper than B&Q

B&Q 15 cuts is per transaction...buy one piece of wood and cut.......buy next piece and cut......not that I even needed 15 cuts all in.

Cost me about £40 including bracketry and I have some ply left to make a box to cover the propex heater in the future.

Gotcha... I'm about 2 mins from Savoy and B&Q so lucky enough to use both when required.
Can't wait to build my interior, still not sure what design to go for but thinking of building from scratch myself. (with a lot of luck)

Have you built much else inside too?

No. The rest of the interior is leisuredrive.

All I need now is to finish it off with some dark carpet lining.
