Electolux RM212 servicing question

Post by hicksy »

Hi all,

I picked up the above fridge in a second hand interior deal, and before I even switch it on I want to service it as its pretty old!

I have cleaned all electrical terminals and cleaned the interior/exterior of the unit and Im now down to servicing the gas fittings. I have removed the exhaust wrap and assesd the fittings and to be honest they are pretty flaky and crusty. Please note, all this is as per the instructions I downloaded from Wiki (awseome feature!)

Next to clean the jet I have to remove the jet by undoing the union fron the nut (which is part of the burner), but the union is stuck fast in the krusty fittings. Ive soaked in PB-Blaster penetrating fluid but it still wont budge.

How do I separate a copper union from a rusty fixing? Can I use heat? Im now just rounding off the copper union.

Please help!!!

Well I removed the pipes that hold the jet, union and fitment, and both sparkers. The only way I separated the union from the rusty steel nut, was heat, then the steel nut removed all the thread from the union, FECK!!! All these parts were now deemed useless, and I broke the flexible copper pipe for the sparker too, double FECK!

Looked on tinters' to try and find replacements and then I had a brainwave! Try a Caravan breakers!!

I knew I was heading up to Elemental in Stansted this weekend so I rang the nearest breakers in essex which had the parts I needed, He even helped me remove the parts from the fridge he was beaking and voila, good replacement bits for £10!! Whilst there I also bought a good two way 8mm gas valve for my interior for £5.

All in a great service, and great prices. If your in the area call chris or see his website, he has masses of parts: http://www.essexcaravanbreakers.co.uk/1.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
