Hi,

(I've got a 2.1i Petrol with LPG conversion).

I noticed the other day, when I finally ran out of LPG, that the van is running really badly on Petrol. It won't idle at all, hardly any power and needs of lots of revs to move, and even then it's a very jerky ride. Switch it back of to LPG and it's sweet as a peach.

I may have run out of petrol the other day before I topped it back up again, but I just switched it back over to LPG. (I normally try and do a little run on petrol every now and again when I first start her up..)

I haven't looked into to the problem yet, that's the task for tonight, but it would be handy to get some ideas of what it could be???

All I can think of is; an injector has packed up. air in the fuel lines where I might have ran out of petrol. some dirt in the lines. (did put some of that cleaner additive in, and then tried to drive a mile)

Any others? or ideas how to remady any of the above, as I aint got a clue :D

Please don't laugh too loudly at my advice as i am a girl with only supervisory (making tea and watching, passing spanners)experience but if you have run out of petrol i would try changing the fuel filters. There is one near the petrol tank and i think there is another one. They are only pence for GSF and could be the solution.

When did you last fill up with petrol ? This new-fangled unleaded goes off after a few months.

There will be an inline cannister fuel filter Nicola IF it's still got the injection system on it (and we would NEVER laugh at your advice) :wink: :run

Also Petrol pump possibly. You could try disconnecting the ECU plug near the left hand rear light cluster and plug it back in This resets (but dont start engine with out it.) There is a box of tricks behind the right rear cluster which can go bad (idle stabiliser control unit I think) The only thing is to swap it out for a known good one. Just make sure obvious electrical plugs are plugged around the engine bay. Theres quite a few bits on the 2.1 to do with fuelling TBH which is a case of sitting down with the Bentley manual and going through the tests with a voltmeter. Hopefully its something simple though!

The petrol is fairly fresh, not more than a month old.

Yep I've still got the injector system on it, so I've got the inline casnnister filter. Which I think are supposed to be fairly resilient? ..not that cheap to replace anyway...

Interestingly,

mine is similar.....doesn't like petrol. If its 2.1 are you using super unleaded which I'm told it should run from factory unless you have had the timing changed for standard unleaded. I was told when I had mine converted that the timing for LPG meant that any petrol needed to be super. But still needs more revs to take off in first....is lumpy....has flat spots then will suddenly pick up and run ok. BUT>>as I only ever have enough petrol for a get me to a garage job, I am not overly worried.

Mine, however is carbed. Next service will include fuel filter change etc etc

If you've run out of petrol and pulled all the crap and dead things out of the bottom of the tank that would be my first port of call.

What would I need to do to sort that out?
