fuel tank issue van cutting out

hi all can anyone help my van (1982 2l a/c )when i drive at high revs like climbing hills after about 40 seconds it cuts out,anyway done some work and found out when i removed fuel pipe off fuel tank hardly any fuel came out tried to unblock it but no joy, on the other side of the tank there is another pipe with a bung over it, can this be used or is it only a return pipe for diesel models, as when i removed bung fuel was flowing nicely ?

You need to connect the other pipe as this is your return pipe to your petrol tank
