How much supply and fit clutch

I've been meaning to ask, the Nepal post reminded me. Looked onlin but cant find an answer. Does anyone know how much it should be to supply and fit the clutch for a 1.6 td. Thanks

If i remember correctly spannerboy quoted me around £300, can't remember if that included the clutch

I suppose it all depends on who you use. Being in London it may be a bit more expensive than oop north.

I paid well under £200 when I had mine done. However if I knew then what I know now, having since swapped out the gearbox on my own. I would have just bought the clutch kit (around £90 iirc) and done the work myself.

Interesting. Reason I ask is that when I broke down the AA took me to Nationwide Autocentres in Glasgow who charged me £420. Soon after AA bought Nationwide Autocentres and I'd heard on the grapevine that it should only have cost about £200 to supply and fit the clutch.

I'm afraid its as long as a piece of string. Knew a garage that charged £480 fifteen years ago! Not hard to do yourself, just heavy and oily.

The hourly labour rate is the main determining factor.
2 - 3 hours labour (3 hours max)
£90.00 LUK clutch
Plus VAT

Back street garage = £135 labour (£45hr) + £90 clutch plus 20% VAT = £270.00

Nationwide might be a little more per hour but you've still been charged at least £100 over the odds.

If you have a bee in your bonnet ask them to provide a run down of costs especially how they came to the time allowance. Non franchise dealers tend to use AutoData (an electronic program) to calculate repair times so insist on seeing a repair time schedule (what they based the repair time on)
Like I say, I reckon this would be between 2 and 3 hours.

A local vw garage quoted me about £250 +vat and said that he only used new (not recon) clutches

He recommended that i let him put in a new slave cylinder at the same time for a furthur £30 quid - and the work would come with a 12 month parts/labour warranty.

The van mysteriously stoppped being difficult to get in/out of gear a few days after speaking to him and my driveshaft problem has now taken priority - but £300 seems about the going rate
