What is the best type and brand of oil to use for my 1.6TD?
I've only had it a couple of weeks but so far I've used Castrol Edge 5W40.
Also, where's good for buying cheaper or in bulk. That stuff is 15 sheets per litre.

Ive just had my recon serviced at 5000 miles and I requested mineral oil based on some thoughts on this site and high oil usage early on with semisynthetic and also tappet noise every now and then. I wasnt sure if the pistons were bedding in effectively either. Ask halfrauds the oil recomended for 1.6TD and they say mineral.
I can say my tappets are not firing off anymore but im not sure of oil consumption yet. The garage likes to frighten me by playing the turbo card as the likely cause of high oil usage.
I keep the oil just above the second dot on my ambiguious oil measuring device. This can only be judged after 5 attempts and some averaging out. Its called a dip stick... so true
