Is wynns STOP LEAK/SMOKE or similar any good?

Post by Cyrus »

Is the stop leak or smoke additive from wynns, redex etc ant good?
I used it years ago when selling a smoke car but for the long run is it any good for the engine?
What does it exactly do to prevent leaks and smoke?

The ideal way would be a strip down and new seals but time/ money is an issue.

Any help is appreciated.

i have foung them to work yes.

really depends on whats actually wrong

i have used various stopleaks , from different manufacturers most seem to have been ok .

water pumps , dripping rads ect seem ok but never cured a steaming t25 tho , i think we have the wrong type of head gasket/seal system for the likes of the glass stuff to work!

Snake oil...
What it does is clogs the rings with resin, this prevents them from moving around and getting properly lubricated... then it's open to seizing or uneven wear on the cylinder.

I don't mind the water leak stoppers like wynns

Thought it done something like that. I assumed it thickened the oil so it didn't leak as much. I'll stear clear.
Thanks
