DG or not DG

Post by uniB »

Bit embarrassed to ask such a Nube-like question, but just to get this straight once and for all... If I've got a 1.9 watercooled '88 van is it a DG engine or could it be something else and are all 1.9 watercooled engines the same what ever the year?

More specifically will a gearbox off an '84 DG definitely fit my van?

There, I said it - go snigger at my ignorance

Not all 1.9's are the same DF has smaller head ports, manifold and carb. AS FAR AS I KNOW all the WBXer gearboxes are interchangeable though, clutch/flywheel wise there's 2 different the later being 228mm.

If it has a Pierburg carb the chances are it's a DG.

Little white sticker - where's that then?? I've looked on the engine block where it was suggested in another tread - by the breather pipe but there's no sign of anything stamped there.

Ooh, I've had a look and don't seem to have one of those stickers. I do have a Pierburg carb though so maybe that's a sign it's a DG as Ian suggests

take a look where it says engine code at the base of the black round cylinder behind the alternator bracket. you'll probably need to clean it up with a rag and some wd40 and look with a torch.

Thanks, useful pic that. I had a brief look and can't see anything but I'll get the WD40 out tomorrow and see if I can uncover anything!
