Where the temp guage sits is a regular question.
It depends on the engine and which temp sender is fitted (VW made a few that fit )
My current van sits at 1/4. Though it has crept up a little in the hot weather.
My old van sat at 1/4 till I changed the sender then it sat at 1/2.
3/4 sounds a little warm but if the Rad fan only comes on if you are sitting in traffic or after a fast run probably OK.
It might be worh checking the connections to the dash board PCB and the voltage regulator on the PCB.
Basicaly if the temp guage is stable and doesnt wander up or down I wouldnt worry.

On my old 1.6 diesel engine it use to be just under half way, I now have newer 1.9 diesel engine in and it is at about half to just over.
