Cold enuff for ya....
Morning everyone.... have been out for our first overnighter in our Komet this weekend, went to Stainforth in the Dales, to giv him a run and try out the electrics etc before we venture down to Volksworld this weekend.. Managed to get all the floor heater, plugs stove etc going it's just the fridge, it was cold but i'm not sure how, can't hear the thing working, the mains switch is on and the dial was up to 8, managed to freeze some OJ!!!! Anyway, what i could do with a bit of help on is when not on hook up how do i get it going, no leccy at V/world i believe.. the gas bottle is on but there is no sound of a pilot light firing it up i know it is prob going to be dead simple but is doing my head in, Darren

Tell us what conversion you've got. The fridge doesn't make any noise as it's an absorption fridge which means it doesn't have a compressor like a domestic household one. Is your fridge electronic ignition or push button 'clunk' piezo type?

Its a Auo homes Komet circa 87. the fridge is an electrolux and has a mains switch near to the fuse box. on the front there is a red switch on the left which is next to a knob which has a zero then 1,2,3 settings. on the right is a knob which goes up to 8 i am guessing this is the temp control...

Ignore the RHS knob as that is only used when running off the mains/hook up.
Open the gas bottle regulator and the valve under the sink too. If you have a 'Zig' unit fitted the 12v switch on the right of the three switches has to be 'ON'. The LHS knob has to be pushed in and turned to position 2 or 3 and held in for the gas to flow. Switch the red switch to 'on' (down) and it should flash and a very small clicking noise should accompany the flashing which is the ignition circuit making the ignitor spark. When the gas has ignited (may take some time depending when the last time gas flowed in the pipe) the flashing and clicking will stop indicating that the flame is lit. Continue to keep the knob pressed in for about 10 seconds and then release it. The fridge should stay lit on it's own. If the switch starts flashing again the flame has gone out and you'll have to push and hold the knob in again etc. Again, the operation is silent running.

A big thank you, so it doesn't need any leccie then as this seemed to draw off the leisure batt quite alot, shall i leave the mains switch off then.... Oh and it is exactly like that one in the pic....Will it go through huggins of gas or are they quite good, again big thanks there were some instructions that went with the van but my girlfirend and i have quite proffesional jobs and we still couldn't get the damn thing working..ha ha

The only 'leccie it needs on gas is 12v from the Zig to the ignition circuit. It uses very, very little gas - just a tiny flame that's all.
The 12v operation switch on the RHS doesn't affect the ignition - this is for the fridge to work off the alternator while you are driving along only. It works via a relay that will only connect the 12v to the fridge when the engine is running - stop the engine and the relay will drop out and disconnect the fridge. You can't run a fridge off your leisure battery as it will flatten it in next to no time as it draws about 9 amps at 12v.

again many thanks, so when i am driving along and want the fridge to run i need the right hand switch down on the battery sign and the dial next to it set to a figure.

Not quite. yes the 12V just keeps the fridge cool it's not the best of the three power sources for efficiency
Mine loves running on gas... it freezes beer and bacon if I don't turn it down.... mad

Took in to be serviced, gas and leccie, the fridge is knacked when on gas will need taking out to sort it but the vent is quite rusty around it so will ave to wait til we get the body sorted, little aside tho, the calor bottle is laid on it's side, the guy who did the service reckoned it really sholud be stood, any thoughts, something to do with the regulator and liquid gas, there's no way within the cupboard space for it to stand,,,anyone got their van's fridge and stove running on lpg???

You must have the wrong size gas bottle. The Komet takes a 907 Butane bottle which stands upright in the cupboard below the cupboards with the sliding doors. There's also a vent cut in the floor in there.

There is no way that you should be running any gas appliance with the bottle on its side. I saw a bottle fall on its side on a camp site 40 years ago - there was an immediate jet of flames 5 foot high coming out of the gas cooker that was being used. Luckily no one was hurt but it could have been a disaster if it hadn't been outside.
Resite the bottle so that it is upright or get a smaller one that will fit there upright.
