Hi - it's a bitch to do, but can be done. Removing fan housing, alternator and associated tinware is the hard bit. Take note of which way round the seals go, and don't overtighten. One of the first jobs I had to do on my bus. Good luck.

Hi Nick,

just out of interest....was was the fault that led you to changing the oil cooler and seals? :?:

I don't have any dials for oil temperature...I assume that it is aftermarket?

Does the van do something inparticular with this problem??

Becoming more parnaoid each and every day!!!

Emma
I changed mine 'cos it started peeing out oil from the fins on the oil cooler itself. It's a standard part on a 2l. Dials can be added but they just give you more things to worry/get paranoid about.

Emma - if you can hold the dipstick without leaving a permanent impression on your hands, then it's not overheating...

The oil cooler leaking can look like the push rod seals, it's when you change them and there's no difference that you know it's likely to be coming from above, from the oil cooler
If you are a playmobil person then your chances of drowning are significantly increased by wearing a life jacket.

to brb and Jen,

thanks for the advice. May well try the dipstick thing. No oil under van, so presume all is ok at the moment.

Just another little nugget to stash away!

Hi Emma, my mechanic is still working on the van and says it's a **** of a job. We did pushrod seals a few weeks ago and stopped most of oil leaks but found oil cooler leaking,if you look at your oil filter you will see the cooler near it oblong finned box thing. As you know the trailer we tow we need to keep as much oil in the engine as possible!! Hope you're all ok. Nick.

Funny Jed   Bob says he's not going to miss following me and getting front of his bay covered in oil stops it going rusty though. How you doing? Got any more bling on your bus? Nick.
