transmission pipe
Hi! I took my camper for it's MOT today and was told it was leaking transmission fluid, on inspection a pipe have burst. not sure whether its the pipe for the automatic gear box or the power steering. so I went on line and put in a search for a transmission pipe with Just Campers and GFS. and it comes up with nothing am I using the wrong terminology. what is this pipe called? can anyone help me. On a lighter note it couldn't of happened in a better place. but the garage asked me to get the part for them as our VW garage doesn't have them in stock.

Re: transmission pipe
The transmission or gearbox fluid has a distinct smell to it it cant really be mixed up with brake or power steering fluid unless it is mixing with it as it drips down the box (ie 2 leaks). There is an transmission fluid filler pipe and dipstick on the automatic which it could be, part number 090 321 405 D which is no longer available from VW. It is unlikely that GSF or JK will sell this, your best bet would be a breakers place a post in the wanted section or repair the pipe or make up a new one from similar material. There is also an oil cooler for the auto box but I am not familiar with them, it has pipes going to and from but I think it takes coolant (don't quote me!)
If its at all possible it would be a good idea to get the garage to mark it up with some chalk or point it out to you so you can get a picture or describe it better. what does it look like? where does it go to /from? diameter? material made from etc.

Thank you ever so much my son as read your reply, and is a little clearer now, he is convinced it's the power steering, thank goodness he knows the lad at the garage. I've got to get to Bus types, I just cant miss our first show of the season, it would break my heart.

Heres a replacement. If you still have the original metal pipes its probably time to replace them all with these as the originals are difficult to source and fit.
