Throttle cable is sticking on my 1.6TD so I decided to replace it (I've tried dribbling lubricant down it before!). I bought the replacement cable from GSF but it looks slightly different from the one on the van. The one on there already has an outer cable or sheath on it all the way along, right from the pedal end. The replacement cable is only half sheathed with over a meter of bare cable at the pedal end. Is this correct? Am I meant to re-use the some of the outer from the old cable?
Also, any hints on replacement method very much appreciated! I can see the cable goes above the fuel tank so I'm hoping that won't cause too many problems!
Ant advice very welcome! Thanks.

solid plastic outer cable is retained.
pull out the o/s indicator to gain accress to the cable clamp.
pull it out then feed the new in .
remove it from the engine bay to under the van . pull it from the outer liner also from under the van!
you may need to destroy the rubber boot on the cable , pedal end to assist in removal

check your old against new for length as there are about 10 different types

Re: Replacing throttle cable, diesel
Finally took the old cable out and compared it with the new. The old one has a nylon sleeve on it which I guess helps it move better inside the outer cable. The new cable does not have the nylon sleeve part so it will just be metal cable running inside the rubber/plastic outer. Is it OK to fit this one? Have I got the right cable? (It was from GSF and according to them its correct for my van)

Re: Replacing throttle cable, diesel
yeah , as long as the ends/ length are the same all will be good.
just cheaper aftermarket parts , simpler to reduce costs
