glow plug replacement

Post by docklad »

I know it's been covered elsewhere on here. Just a few links to save me searching will do, if you'd be so kind. doing mine the morrow and intend filming it for the lay people out there. Hard to believe there isn't a vid on the net. Well there will be tomorrow or friday. Any of those nice little tips will be welcome.

sorry not a chance of doing a vid. It rained all day and the job was a killer. To make matters worse, it's as if I haven't changed the plugs. Turns over quickly but no immediate start. After maybe 4 attempts , she coughs to a start and spits out big puffs of white smoke. Will start first time if easy start sprayed down air inlet. Runs ok but a slight chugging pulling off in first. I increase revs and play clutch to solve it. Baffled

spoken to various mechanics. Could be glow plug wire damage, "pooh" connection, or battery just not got the umph needed. Gunna strip down starter also. Anyone else had this issue, with new plugs fitted.

there isn't a fuse in the box. Must be elsewhere or wired up differently

had a fiddle looking for fuse and now she's stopped working. Nothing when key turned. Jumped ok but still wouldn't start after a good 20 mile journey. fanbelts been squealing for a few weeks so I hope it's that, not charging the battery. \junno what? If I didn't love the bloody thing so much she'd be an orfan

Docklad - have a look at the wiki link below. It shows where the fuseable link should be, below the Glow Plug relay - make sure it is present and not broken. If it is knackered or missing they are available from Just Kampers. Also have you tried using the cold start lever? I leave mine engaged all the time

well well well..............would you believe it? I've changed my fan belt and the engine is like new. I knew it was sqeaking but had no reason to worry because everything was functioning, or so I thought. I was able to turn the flywheel whilst holding the belt and thought I'd adjust the belt a bit tighter. I moved the slider to the bottom and the belt was still too big. Replaced it with a smaller one and had a feel. Started first time and ran her for 30mins. Went back to start her again afterwards and she fired up like never before. Went for a run and could actually feel the difference with the pulling strength. Now she's back to normal. All the time I thought it was something else it turns out that the battery wasn't getting enough charge. So there we have it. Sweet
