gear linkage joints

Post by rogerg-wagon »

Hi Guys,
Have just removed the gear linkage to replace the rear bushes and am trying to determine whether the rear of the shaft is supposed to be sloping slightly upwards after the bend and where the nylon sleeve fits over. tried to compare it with one on another van and that one looks as though it is straight.
Also which is the best way to remove the roll pin from the base of the ball socket ?, mine is well corroded on the inside of the gear shift rod and I am not sure which direction I should try to remove it.
Thanks
Roger

you can tap the roll pin right through into the ball cup. if you follow through with the drift you will push out a nylon insert in the ball cup and retrieve the pin for re use.

:? Not on mine - I scraped all the crud out of the cup right to the bottom and it was all aluminium (1986 MY so might be different?) The ball is a respectable fit now it's been renewed, but couldn't get the cup off as it's been fixed with 2 self-tapping screws by previous keeper...so the worn onion and bellows (non-existant) will have to wait for another day.
Filled the cup with silicone grease to prevent wash-out :ok
