Anti roll bar question

Post by lloydy »

Replaced all the bushes on the anti roll bar recently (inc drop links)
Now some numpty questions.
First since doing them, twice i've had a kinda grinding noise from nearside front when turning right and slowing down :? (not a knocking or clicking, but quite noisy!)
Soo first need to check i've fitted it right, how tight should the nut on the drop link bushes be? And is it tightened with wheel on the ground.
Next the anti roll bar mounts, one side has more of a slope on it, does this slope face forward or towards rear?
I'm wondering if ive got the drop link bushes to loose and the drop link is moving under load? Has only happened twice in the last 1000k, and both times i was moving very slow.
Many thanks

i don't think so, the times it happened i haven't been braking hard, more letting off accelarator or a slight touch on the brake. Maybe the camber of the road loading up the front corner. I've tried to replicate it (quite enthusiastically!) and nothing :?

No idea
the annoying thing is i can't replicate it, it'll probably never do it again  i'll tighten up the drop link, maybe it's twisting and grinding on the roll bar.
Never really thought of brakes, wouldn't they do it all the time?

Good call, but wouldn't it happen all the time? The noise it made sounded more like two heavy objects if that makes sense. Don't know how noisy gravel would be?

As Andy says it could be a piece of gravel stuck in the caliper,It happened to me in France and drove me mad. It only seemed to happen when I was going down hill, cleared itself eventually.

Has it started since you put your new tires on?

Or only since the roll bar bushes were renewed?

i thought it might be tyre rubbing, can't see where it would catch though. I've only heard the noise since doing ARB. Got the same noise today butnot as loud by driving over those split road humps, so just front left went over hump. So only seem to get it when front left is compressed?
Can't see how i can get the ARB wrong though, but i'll loosen off the chassis mounts to make sure they line up with old marks

think it's sussed, looks like tyre is catching when i have a small amount of steering lock on and load up the suspension on that corner.
Here's a little vid of me just pushing down on the bumper
