I currently have a 1.9 petrol t25 1985 and have been thinking of converting it to a diesel. I know it isnt just a straight swap but im not sure what i need to do all together. Ive been told that i need another battery carrier in the engine bay is this correct? Also been told that it would be easier to obtain a doner vehicle? Could someone advise please
Thanks
G
I can't help much with diesels, but there are plenty of posts on here about it. The main reason for moving the battery closer to the starter is that the diesel requires more cranking power so your not losing power through long battery cables.
You'll also need to change your bellhousing, engine mounts, I belive sump and exhaust, You may also need to check your gearbox ratios are suitable for the engine you intend to fit.
There are plenty of people on here that know more about this than me and plenty of previous posts covering most things you'll need to know.

And also have a look at the electrical side, you will need the clock pod with the glow telltale etc, heater on ign switch, heater relay and stuffin the engine bay, loads and loads of more stuff, doable buttttttttttttt.. mine is 1.6a/c to diesel loads of fun.
mike and good luck as they are real nice to drive on propper fuel
basically depends on how good you want the job done.
i have seen some very poor conversions bodging most items, but they work.
to get a oem looking conversion thats reliable you will find it easier getting a donor vehicle as you need things like clockset / wiring looms hoses / front-rear coolant pipes, throttle cable
couple of items need cutting from the diesel shell mounts/engine tray
common bits that are usually missing from an advertised complete conversion!
