Potential problem product

Post by Simon Baxter »

How do.
Customer contacted us today with a problem with one of our products.

T3 syncro fuel sender unit retaining ring and seals.

Seems that something has gone awry between us, our fabricators and the company they use to supply and cut their rubber.

It appears that the rubbers are getting perished by petrol.

If you have some of these can you get in touch so we can sort some replacements please.

We've sold a few and the way our webshop is set up I don't think we can find out who bought them.

I know most syncro owners come here so we should catch them all!

Eek!

Sorry about this, well fix it as soon as we can.

Simon.

*Oh, and cheers to the guy that brought it to our attention rather than moaning on here first!

Broke down again today, and rescued by the RAC...again

I was having a fuel weepage problem after changing the sender unit with kit bought from Van cafe, I would have bought from Baxter like I do a small fortune everything else but there was no stock...and the tank was on the floor!. So it was I bought in the USA....and this post worried me.

So over the weekend I went to investigate the fuel weepage and took off the fuel sender and ....aaaagh !!! had then to proceed very carefully to remove the crumbling seals as both had totally perished.

I told the RAC the storey so he blew the suction fuel line back after which the truck started...no marks for guessing what happened! these bits have found there way into the suction pipe etc etc.

Van Cafe are not admitting to a problem (customer service?) so they would probably just send me the same rubber again, Baxter has said he can't help as he didn't order enough.

..........Can any one else help?

Clearly I need to remove the sender unit...again (should have put wing nuts on it!) flush out the tank and replace the home made seals that I put in.

.......and I need to do this before Coney...or I wont be going :(

Does any one have any new Syncro Fuel tank sender unit seals, or know where I can get them!!

Many Thanks

Not sure if I'm 100% correct here but the only seal for the fuel gauge sender that I can find on ETKA is 251 919 133 and that is still available from VW (they say). So try VW.

Sorted now thanks, transpired I did get the seals from Baxter after all DOH! and he is sending new ones when they arrive.

Thanks all for the help/advice, I think my home made seals are holding and will try a tank flush Saturday,..........damn hard enough to keep these machines on the road as it is without "recalls"

Hopefully look forward to see all on Sunday.

Seals arrived this aft.
All those that have been in contact have theirs already packed, they will leave thurs for a friday delivery [if Royal Fail do their job right]
We have found a way of searching previous orders for people who have bought this item so we managed to identify a few more, we've also got to send some to Finland and a couple of other European ones then i think we're on top.
Again, our appologies.
