After playing at the weekend http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cBT8m9A ... ata_player ok some rough stuff but nothing she hasn't done before
I noticed this I
A rock had hit the corner of the inspection plate shearing off the M6 bolt head and breaking off the corner of the plate. More or less the same thing happened to Dave aka Crankinwagon after Wales. This morning when I looked at it again it was dripping at a rate of one drip every minute and twenty seconds and that has been sat overnight under load and hot would be a lot more. It seems to be the achilles heel on Diesels as with petrols the protection bars are closer together according to Aidan. Aidan reckons a gearbox could be emptied of it's fliud after twenty miles leading to the gearbox ceasing up with a bad rupture
Therefore to protect against this you need one of these
Sods law I usually run with this on but had just changed over to another one which I had just removed the metal protection plate as it was not secured well enough and this was going to be the last run offroad for a while in the camper.

Like the extra plate on the bars though, how thick is it and what material ?
I have the template for that extra aluminium plate if you want one.
I'd like a copy
Me too please, At the moment I'm fed up with the diesel letting me down, seems to be one thing after another.

Ha Ha thanks Al, Actually it was your nose dive into the river during the first Devon meet last year that convinced me Diesel was the way to go for serious off road. Sure I'll get there in the end...what's the saying "let the wallet emptying begin .

I made up a full plate for my petrol one coz I didnt like the possible rock gearbox interaction... Now I am a bit blase about rocky terrain and just bend the bars every so often when being a bit enthusiastic...

Hi Si, lets ask the obvious question - how much ? given that I have just invested many many hundreds of pounds in nice new gearbox bits lovingly bolted together by Aidan ( thanks ! ) it makes sense to protect them.....on the other hand I aint got much money left (no surprise there - I do own a Syncro ...) so i may have to do it myself
What? More currency leaving the country? Let's try and keep it home-grown chaps, there's a national defecit to be paid off y'know!
PS. I don't do sheet or plate work myself, but could ask our welder/fabricator or our preferred sheet metal outfit?
3mm steel and weld on, or thicker aluminium and rivuts?
