The fuel gauge isn't working. Can the fuel sender be tested insitu? If so how is this done?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Testing fuel sender
Pull the wires off the sender and bridge them. If the gauge works then the sender is knackered. If not its the gauge.

Of course, that makes sense. Thanks.

Re: Testing fuel sender
Ive tested guage by putting 12v across it and all ok. Also tested voltage regulator and aok.
Wire to sender has 12v but i never bridged em

Re: Testing fuel sender
Fuel gauges (and temp gauges) are regulated to 5v, don't put 12v across them!
Re: Testing fuel sender
mmmmmmmmmmm
sure i read in Betleys it was 12v
it did move up with 12v though
voltage reg was showing correct reading (cant remember what manual said but was bang on middle of upper/lower limits)
showed 12v as plug at tank but i never bridged em.

Re: Testing fuel sender
Fixed!! Rusty connector at sender unit. It had welded itself together. Ripped it off and solered new connector.

Re: Testing fuel sender
Voltage is regulated otherwise the the temp and petrol gauge would read low just after starting and read higher once the battery voltage has recovered after starting.
Also, if it did run from supply voltage then the gauges would read lower when you switched the lights on.

Re: Testing fuel sender
Can you fiddle with the sender connectors by slightly dropping the tank, really dont want to remove all the breathers etc

Re: Testing fuel sender
Yes you can. The sender connector terminal is encircled in red and you can gain direct access without any messing about.

On a Syncro yes, but not a 2WD I think.
