JK engine?????
Just got back from the diesel specialist as still trying to sort out my smoke problem. He had a good look at the engine and said its a JK code. Is this right, I was under the impression it was a JX! Anyway, he says timing is out, its miss firing, theres a few leaks from the injector pump and there is also some engine wear which is the problem. He's gonna make some phone calls and I'm to give him a ring in a couple of days and see what he's come up with. We've spoken about rebuilding/remanufacturing and about maybe sticking in an AAZ or even a later TDI engine and getting a mechanical pump for it. I'm open for any option really depending on how much its gonna cost. Might start looking around for a donor vehicle. Will update this in a few days after I've made the call.

Re: JK engine?????
Hello,
AFAIK the JK is non-turbo, so if it is a JK engine and you have a turbo, then that might explain your engine wear. The turbo engines have oil sprayers for cooling to pistons and stronger rods and a whole array of other things to make them compatible with a turbo.
If it turns out it's a JK with a new sump and exhaust manifold and turbo stuck on, then given all your previous problems, I'd probably think seriously about a new engine. Read the diesel sticky post of the alterrnative engine forum - lots of info there.
Sorry to hear you're still having problems.

Re: JK engine?????
Thanks for the reply Ewen
I have just been and checked myself and it is definitely a JK code engine and definitely has a turbo fitted. Cant see the point of rebuilding it for it to go the same way. Not too sure what to do next. Think it might be more economical to replace the whole engine with a donor. I'm not very mechanically minded so would need somebody to do this for me however I would love to have a go myself. What donor cars should I be looking for? Would a new jx cylinder head and bottom end rebuild do the job? I'm assuming the fuel pump will still work if I do change the cylinder head. So many questions. Thanks for any advice

Re: JK engine?????
I would suggest fitting a 1.9 1Y na engine then you can fit the turbo& manifolds off your old engine + the sump flywheel and clutch and a few other bits .The 1Y engine should have 1.9/td stamped on the block which indicates it has cooling jets..These engines are fitted to VW caddies and golfs years mid 90s to late .
