Front bearings

Post by KarlT »

Hi all

Van went straight through MOT the other day except for an advisory ''With a few beers bought! '' about a loose front,off-side wheel bearing.

My question is......Is that adjustable?

My reference is the Haynes & that only deals with 2 wheelers

It isnt adjustable. It is of similar construction to that of golfs and other front wheel drive cars.
the bearing will fall apart when removing the hub.A desent range of tools and a press is needed for this job.
U need to order the bearing and 2 sealls with it.This bearing and the seals are quite pricey aswell.
There are a few after market supplyers of the bearings but have not as yet found one for the seals. They are about £20 each.
I would strongly recomend replacing these with new ones if u use the vehicle off road.

Cheers for reply Russel

Are you saying this is a garage job? I'm alright on the tools but have only got a box of spanners ( and hammers! )

Could you recommend somewhere to buy bearings?

Hi

Local Autoquip can't / won't get them.

Will try GFS. Is there anyone else apart from VW main dealer?

Ive just had to replace the rear ones on my syncro, they were the same as the 2wd ones, new inners and outers and seals cost in the region of 50 from gsf.
