jx oil presssure switch- which one?!

Post by freej »

Hi,
Mine is a jx 1600td german lhd syncro ( i think it is an 'early' type as no diff locks?) anyway... since replacing the oil pressure switch due to oil leaking from it, i keep getting the buzzer and warning light going off.
The only way to stop it it seems is to give it some revs- change down or drop the clutch and punch the gas.
When i took the leaky one out it was so old and knackered i couldn't tell what colour it was so went to gsf and they gave me the only one they stock but unfortunately i dont think it is right...

Can anyone advise me on which one to use? I have contacted Brickwerks and they couldn't help unless i knew the original switch colour.

It would save me driving around with my tunes turned up to drown it out!!

Also thought it worth a mention that it just sailed through the mot without any work needed! What a van, i love it! ( although it is having a diesel leak fixed at the garage as i write this)

Any advice greatly appreciated,

Ben

If you still have the old one clean around the base, the bar rating is stamped on. If not and you know the engine is sound go for the low rated blue one 0.15-0.35 bar. Check out Just Kampers website, they stock all 4 different ones from £3 a pop :o k OR check colour of new one and choose the next one down on the list.

They always have a blue one.
It goes to the blue/black wire (I think)
It is normally closed.

Then there could be a white, grey or black switch.
that goes to the yellow wire.
thats normally open.

Oil pressure is 2 bar @2000rpm with oil at 80°c on most VW engines, except the JX where it's allowed to be 1 bar.

Not easy this is it, I have this problem on my 1600TD JX re buzzer, light etc. I 've screwed in an air compressor gauge which showed the pressure is OK, although only about 0.5 to 0.8 at idle. But the wire to the switch is Brown? not blue or black or yellow or whatever, and isn't brown normally earth?
The sensor is on the top under the pipe for the Turbocharger, is this the only one on a JX? as opposed to two sensors on my MV.

Only 1 on a jx, stick a blue one in connected to original wiring :D

Diesels have the correct colour direct to the switches, stupid petrols have a connector by the thermostat housing that then changes the wiring colours to both brown wires.
Nice one VW.
Mind you, it was a WBX so it's clear to see they weren't thinking when they designed it.

yes, thats correct.

Assuming the JX second switch is in the same position as the above 1.7d ky. What pressure does it switch at? and what does it activate? Since the light and buzzer seem to come on at the same time from the switch on the Filter housing at around 0.3 bar.
