Plenty on this subject. There is a 'search' facility top RHS of page; I used "heater blower" as the search term, told it to look in the 'Electrical & Instrumentation' Forum only and just to show topics rather than individual posts
search.php?keywords=heater+blower&terms=all&author=&fid%5B%5D=39&sc=1&sf=all&sr=topics&sk=t&sd=d&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search
and welcome to 80-90 by the way

Does it work on any setting? Could be the switch or even a blown fuse

look under information on this site for where the fuses are -
http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/home/home.htm
if switch doesnt work at all (doesnt turn? turns but doesnt come on?)
you may be needing a new switch -

On mine (which still has no heater fan function as I've yet to get the time to take out the dash) If you turn on the heater ir blows the fuse. The fuse also runs the windscreen wipers so you can see when it has gone. Or rather can't see if it is chucking it down lol. Genius bit of electrical design on the part of VW.

Re: heater fan doesnt work ??
So in short....
The motor starts to seize which in turn overheats the switch often melting the contacts and or wiring. In a lot of cases the fuse will continually blow.
At the least: it needs the motor removing/freeing off and not just with WD40 (something more permanent). Probably a new switch and a couple of new spade connectors after removing the melted ends.
