Post by sharonjpp »

Hi all, anyone tell me the difference between the stub axels on a upto 84 and the rest as there are 2 types of front wheel bearing and my van is on the cusp (nov 84) and has most of the late model equip but l'm having trouble with bearings and was wondering whether l had the right 1's,the brakes are ATE twin pots, cast wishbones,l have put new late type bearings in and there's still play + fitted new steering rack, tierod's and ends, cheers.

Early stub axles have the radius rod and bottom ball joint carrier that bolts on, the later bottom ball joints press in and the radius rod is threaded to screw into the stub axle.

Sounds like you have the early set-up.

theres about5 5 different types of stub axel

but if you have twin pot calipers then you have the early setup.

there are still a couple of different castings but the bearings should be early.

84 should be plain early stuff.

85/86 seems to be the change over which is C reg vans -which can have early or late depending on the date manufactured

somewhere in the change over you can get hubs that use a mix of early/late bearings tho

but remember hubs/brakescan be swapped as complete assemblies and often are through the vans life
