Oil dipstick length

Post by dansimpson »

Is there anyone knows how long the dg 1.9 dipstick should be please?

I'd be greatful if next time someone checks their oil if they could measure the dipstick for me. From the flange bit at the top to the bottom, and then from the bottom to the 2 marks.

I've been thinking for a while that mine may not be correct, when I fill the oil to the top mark it "loses" oil down to half way very quickly, then doesnt seem to move for ages after that. Now I know I have a few (?) drips from pushrod seals etc, but it drops so fast that I'm beginning to think maybe its overfull on the second mark.
I changed the oil and filter today, added 4.5 litres, ran the engine for a bit, left it for a couple of hours and its exactly half way between the 2 marks.
Can the dipstick itself be adjusted by pushing it further down through the plastic flange thingy?

Cheers all.

I would mark it myself after having filled her up - that way you know how much you have in there when full.
Someone else's measurements may not be true for your engine.

Very good idea, thank you, I'll let it completely settle then just add a notch at the current level so that becomes the vans full mark.
