Battery questions

Post by ChrisG »

Hi,
Searched many links, still confused.

Use to drive the van on a daily basis including winter so never had to worryabout the batteries.
However, taken the van of the road and will be still for a while.

Whats best for the batteries, ie main battery and leisure?
Do I remove the leisure battery, charge it and store it until when I'm using the van again, ie April/May?
Do I leave it in and connect to trickle solar charger?

Main battery? Do I do the same?

Thanks
Chris

Can you get power to your van? if so then just stick a cheap car charger (4 amp) on each one in turn every 6 - 8 weeks @ 8 - 12 hours per battery
Solar panels might be enough but not for very long periods between driving, where an overnight charge is advisable as stated above.

Yes taking them out the van is best, storing them off the floor in a garage/shed stood on wood or other non cold surface ideally in an anbient temperature (never freezing) topping up electrolyte (if non sealed type) and charging several times over the winter period.
