Shock extenders
At the risk of another controversial post, has anyone considered using skock extenders like these?http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MRG-1290

Not yet. Though I am very keen on hearing some opinions from people who HAVE used them because that will be an option I'll consider shortly.. I have made 2 1/4" shock extenders for the rear due to taller springs and porsche cvs. Bump stop hits before shock is fully compressed so no dramas there. The extra drop down should help a lot off roading.

I think Dai's done that - those american ones of course are a different thread to ours, but I believe there's a beetle version which is metric

I would be interested in a set of these if they come about, the westy is getting a tickle soon and these might save quite abit on new shocks.

yep as Aidan rightly said..... ive done it ,
i made 75mm extentions to the damper mounts on the rear arms to raise the mounts up for the standard dampers dampers when using 60mm of spring spacers, and it works
then i welded 75mm extentions on top of the front damper rods and this setup has been on for about 2 years now and works really well although i do need some ball joint spacers because im right on the limit for the camber...maybe a little over as the passenger wheel does scrub on the outer edge.

Dai, Thanks for sharing your set up. Did you have porsch cvs or other on the rear to increase swing arm drop down. Is your syncro a 16 or 14"? I extended my rear shock 55mm and allowed only 1cm of drop down before the cvs would have been at their max angle and that was with porsche cvs. Did you increase your travel by a full 75mm or does it just leave the shocks compressed at full drop down. A 75mm front extension is huge aswell. How much did you lift the front end by?

yep im using 6 x 944 non turbo cv's and the standard front outers ,i cant tell you how much its lifted at the moment because the wheel arches have been cut of and altered(everybody seems to measure between the centre of the hub to the lower lip of the arch) maybe when the engine goes back in i can give you a measurement from the roof gutter to the floor.My syncro is a 14 with 15inch rims and 235/75/15 tyres

I can see those extenders being quite useful when trying to align the pushrod through the mounting hole under the seat.

Ive got HD2wd front springs on and ive been thinking about having a set made up, mine tops out on occasions, makes bumpy tracks hard on the back Im glad some one else is barking up the same tree and im not having daft ideas
is there any one who stocks them to fit? ive got a good machine shop a couple of mile down the road but allways quicker to buy ready made

TBH i'd nip down the road and get them made, that way you'd know whats in them!
